As part of its ongoing work with the U.S. Department of Education, the Board on Testing and Assessment of the National Research Council recently convened stakeholders from across the realm of education policy to discuss accountability. The first meeting of the Roundtable on Education Systems and Accountability, held in February, brought together policy experts — including representatives from both the Bush and Obama administrations — to explore accountability policy as it relates to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
Danica Petroshius, President and CEO of Policy Strategies and Solutions, attended the meeting. Petroshius was recently appointed to serve a two-year term as a panelist on the roundtable. The roundtable is expected to be a voice of authority and expertise on education accountability. It will aim to find common ground among varying perspectives and to identify key issues policymakers will likely face as NCLB is reauthorized and ARRA is implemented.
